The third game in the Techland/Ubisoft Call of Juarez series arrives this summer with a significantly altered setting. Rather than taking place in the days following the Civil War (as in Call of Juarez 2: Bound in Blood) or during the "Wild West" (like the original Call of Juarez previously reviewed by your's truly here) The Cartel attempt to infuse a modern setting with a mythic-Western vibe. The trailer posted above does a nice job evoking both, but whether or not this is due to story or a great song by the Black Rebel Motorcycle Club is yet to be seen.
While I appreciate the boldness of taking a new direction, I fear that in a gaming market full of Grand Theft Auto-knock offs, duplicitous Calls of Duty, and, more to the point, nearly devoid of solid six-gun experiences, this shift may be something of a misstep...
